Use of Pcs and X-terminals at LNP JINR
There are more than 250 PCs and 4 •-terminals at the Laboratory. They include IBM PC compatible PC 286, 386, 486, Pentium, and P6. 186 Pcs (75%) are connected to local network. Distribution of personal computers by buildings of the Lab is as follows:
   Lab building    - 52  Building 113      - 37
   Building 4      - 30  Building 3        - 24
   Building RChL   - 21  Building 1        - 12
   Building 108    - 10
Operating systems used on Pcs are Microsoft MS-DOS, Windows 3.1, network oriented Windows 95, Windows NT 3.51, Novell NetWare 4.0. and UNIX-like public distributable FreeBSD UNIX, LINUX. For serving PCs the Novell NetWare server LNPNW1 (280 users) located at PC computer room is used. Also in the computer room there are a number of PCs for free public use. To let users to work with the network the packages SUN PCNFS 5.0 and FTP Software PCTCP are used. Physics experimental data processing is possible to be made with PAW for PC designed at JINR in collaboration with CERN.
Document preparation may be done with LATEX, Chiwriter, ME, MS Word 6.0.
Program development software include MS C, Borlland C++ & Pascal, NDP Fortran.
Computer aided design software are AutoCad, Pcad, Orcad.
