New Accelerator Department

specializes in the development and installation of cyclotrons for different purposes. Cyclotrons are used in industry for a wide range of applications in medicine (such as isotope production), industrial processing (track membrane production) and extremely new research services.

The ranges of applications of the high intensity cyclotrons are especially extensive. There is a possibility to produce 103-Pd-seeds for prostate cancer therapy (brachytherapy) by using extremely high intensity 14 MeV proton beam. Another    application   of    the   high   intensity   12-15 MeV deuteron cyclotron is production of parent 99Mo and then 99mTc (the most frequently used in nuclear medicine radio-isotope, usually produced in nuclear reactors).

One of the most actual possible applications of the high intensity beams is transmutations of nuclear waste. Accelerator complex consisting of the 2-3 separated sector cyclotrons can provide the necessary beam power.
